Nigeria is implementing phase one of the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme (PSUP).The cities of Onitsha, Karu and Ifako/Agege are conducting rapid urban profiles, which includes desk reviews, interviews with key actors and country-wide consultations. In addition, action plans at country level will be conducted.
Launched in April 2008, the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme aims to contribute towards urban poverty reduction and the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, particularly Goal 7, Target 10, “reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water by 2015”, and Target 11, “achieving significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers until 2020”. The Programme is currently being implemented in the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States.
