Tanzania is implementing phase two of the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme (PSUP). Rapid, participatory, cross cutting, multi-sectoral and action oriented assessment of needs was conducted. In addition, identification of response mechanisms and prioritization of projects was conducted.
The event will be ground breaking event featuring the launch of concrete actions to provide access to affordable sanitation and safe access to drinking water.
Launched in April 2008, the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme aims to contribute towards urban poverty reduction and the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, particularly Goal 7, Target 10, ““reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water by 2015”, and Target 11, ““achieving significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers until 2020”. The Programme is currently being implemented in the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States.
