Policy review and the implementation of a nation-wide slum upgrading strategy were some of the long-term interventions proposed during phase one when urban profiling was conducted for the City of Ouagadougou. Reports advancing the key recommendations will be validated.

Launched in April 2008, the Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme aims to contribute towards urban poverty reduction and the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, particularly Goal 7, Target 10, “reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water by 2015”, and Target 11, “achieving significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers until 2020”.
