The earthquake that struck Pakistan on 8 October 2005 had a devastating impact, killing an estimated 80,000 people and making some three million people homeless. The earthquake destroyed or damaged an estimated 630,000 houses. UN-HABITAT’s major contribution has been to promote the innovative housing reconstruction policy.

UN-Habitat and partners resettle Pakistan's flood victims
Thatta, Pakistan - 30/05/2012

UN-Habitat, the German manufacturer BASF and the government of Japan this week put a smile on the face of the villagers of Gul Mohammad Gandhro near Thatta, Sindh Province of Pakistan who were victims of the floods of 2010 by resettling them.
