The main objective of the "UN-HABITAT Liaison Office in Madrid" is to support local government in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. 

Key activities of the Office are: 
* To promote capacity building for local and regional authorities 
* To identify and assess best practices, public policies and enabling legislation
* To facilitate exchange of technical expertise and best practices.

The office is situated within the Secretariat of State for Housing and Urban Affairs and supported by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID)."
